La belle ville de Bourg

Today was our first full day in Bourg. We started the morning with breakfast on Nancy and Jean-Claude’s terrace with a beautiful view of the Dordogne river. We walked into town for the Sunday morning market and Hannah feasted on peaches and nectarines. Nancy arranged a visit of a local friend’s home which dates back to the 1800s. The home was exquisitely decorated with period pieces and gorgeous, huge chandeliers. The owner took a liking to Hannah and even brought us down to the cave. The whole visit was quite an experience and something that they do not typically do.

Nancy led us on a walk through town: down to the port, past the lavoires, around the walled city, through a little park, and past the church. We had a delicious lunch and Hannah had three helpings of the yummy tomatoes from their garden. Nancy made the best fries I’ve ever had - who knew that potatoes could have so much flavor?!

After a little afternoon rest (lego time!), we drove over to a working windmill to get freshly ground flour. It was 110 degrees outside and about 90 inside the windmill, but we enjoyed learning about the community funded restoration of the 18th century mill and seeing the mill in action. We bought two different types of flour to use tomorrow in our chocolate chip recipes. :)

We also went to a tuba quartet concert a 15 min drive from town - Hannah is sure getting cultured!  We all had a delicious dinner together in the backyard and Hannah and I headed back early to our gite (just facing their front door!) for cold showers and reading time.
